The video for Kelegbe Megbe finds Adekunle Gold tastefully shaping his neo-Afrobeat sound, orchestrated by still-prolific director Clarence Peters. Kelegbe Megbe is Yoruba for ‘know your level’ and Gold channels quiet, rebellious youth, adorned with a beaded mesh he wears on his head, as if to assert supremacy. The metallic pants and gauzy shirt are appealing, so is the dewy landscape of the video. Favourite line: ”Ogogoro no be vodka kelegbe megbe”

Everything about Rema’s ”Freestyle” EP

Look, Rema is a potential GOAT. The 18-year-old singer and rapper is Mavin Records’ shiny little thing, and I’m tipping him to be a bigger artiste than…[coughs]…Wizkid. On Wednesday, he surprise-released his second EP of the year Rema Freestyle, a four-track project where his emo-trap alter ego manifests to devastating effects. Spiderman and American Love are my personal favourites, but Boulevard and Trap out the Submarine are just as good. Rema is going to be a dynamite, watch out.

Simi is a pleasant surprise in the brand-new video for Jericho, released Friday. Jericho is off her third studio album Omo Charlie Champagne Vol. 1, which features dancehall titan Patoranking. The video is beautiful mosaic of colours, dance moves, and a palpable summer vibe.

Dremo and Reekado Banks on ”Ringer”

”Even if her name nah Grace nobody can share” DMW rap act Dremo raps on Ringer, his first single of 2019 which features Reekado Banks. Ringer is a party jam with Afro fusion elements – the hollow drums and skeletal synth simmering underneath. Bliss.

Kizz Daniel’s pays homage to Lagos in ”Eko”

The visuals for Kizz Daniel’s Eko ripples with the pulse of Lagos, the grind and hustle in the day and the city life that becomes vampiric at night. Kizz Daniel is known for manufacturing unforgettable hooks and viral songs – the Fvck You Challenge was indeed a viral moment for the FlyBoy Inc artiste, and Eko has the potential to become a street anthem and party jam.
