TICKER: “I was dreaming of barbeque” – Woman who set house of fire while “sleep-walking”

A Kentucky woman claimed to be sleepwalking when she set fire to her apartment, as her heavily-medicated son slept inside.

Lamonica Anganette Hill, 41, told firefighters that she dreamed about grilling when she ignited the flames in Lexington, Ky., around 1 a.m. on Sept. 13. But authorities do not believe her explanation.

“I can’t speculate on her motive to telling that story but obviously we had enough evidence to show that that was not the case in this situation,” Capt. Carrie Bowling of the Lexington Fire Department told ABC 36.

Hill was arrested and charged with first-degree arson and attempted murder on Monday. She pleaded not guilty to both on Tuesday.

Other occupants of the Circle View Apartments on Lima Drive are disturbed that Hill gave her son an overdose of medication.

“That scares me. I have two small kids of my own. If it was intentional, then I mean she needs to be punished for it. As far as overdosing a child on medication, she’s not a very good parent in my eyes,” said a fellow apartment tenant.

Authorities claim to have discovered evidence that contradicts Hill’s story. But Bowling said she cannot provide details because the case is ongoing.

It is also too soon to comment on Hill’s mental state at the time of the arson, reported The Lexington Herald-Leader.

“We’re not qualified to make that judgment at this point,” said Bowling. “We basically evaluate the evidence and do what is necessary.”

Hill is being held at the Fayette County jail. A judge set her bond at $500,000, reported WKYT.

A 911 dispatcher guided Hill and her son out of the apartment on the night of the fire.
