Today’s Daily Brief: APC chieftain urges Buhari, Al-Makura to cut cost of governance, Benin Republic president meets Buhari, and more

President of Benin Republic, Mr. Boni Yayi and President -elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, held a closed door meeting on Thursday, with Yayi expressing confidence in Buhari’s ability to take up the challenge Nigeria.

The Benin Republic leader described Nigeria as engine room of the West African sub region.

Speaking after the meeting held at the Defence House, Abuja, Yayi said Nigerians elected Buhari to enhance their destiny because of his integrity and experience as a former Head of State.

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Nasarawa State, Mr. Ibrahim Azara, has called on President-elect Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Tanko Al-Makura to reduce the cost of governance in the country. Azara, who is a legal practitioner, told newsmen on Wednesday in Lafia that the call was imperative in order to fight poverty, unemployment and other social vices.

He advised President elect Muhammadu Buhari to only appoint leaders of proven integrity in to his cabinet. Azara said such appointments would promote accountability and transparency in the country. “I want to advise the President elect, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and Al-Makura to reduce drastically the cost of governance and fight poverty and unemployment.

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of Al-Hassan Yakmut as the substantive Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), the commission said on Thursday in Abuja. Patrick Omorodion, the Special Assistant (Media) to NSC Chairman Tammy Danagogo, said in a statement that the confirmation was conveyed to Danagogo through a letter dated May 12, 2015.

A group of Peoples Democratic Party members in Adamawa state under the banner, PDP Aggrieved Aspirants Forum, has threatened to drag the party to court for failing to refund money used to buy nomination forms.

Addressing journalists in Yola on Thursday, the chairman of the group, Liazaru Eliada-Gugu, said the party had advertised for various elective positions but failed to conduct the primaries.

MEMBERS of the House of Representatives  of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP extraction Tuesday  said the party has not endorsed any candidate for the position of House Speaker. Also, more than 80 youths from the North East on Tuesday stormed the National Assembly demanding that Rep Yakub Bawa must be made the speaker of the eighth House.
