The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Onaiyekan, has called for sanctions against a Catholic priest, Ejike Mbaka, who publicly urged Nigerians to vote President Goodluck Jonathan out.
Mr. Onaiyekan was quoted by Thisday newspaper as saying that based on the rules of the church, Reverend Father Mbaka, who heads the Adoration Ministry congregation in Enugu, ought to be sanctioned for his outburst.
He criticised the cleric for going overboard in his sermon and insinuating that the Jonathan administration is plagued with “bad luck” and poor performance.
Father Mbaka had on December 31, 2014, told Nigerians to use the forthcoming general election to vote Mr. Jonathan out.
President Goodluck Jonathan has inaugurated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organization (PCO) saying that he would confront the opposition with his record of achievements.
According to him, the PDP would win the presidential election next month based on its performance in office.
Jonathan challenged past leaders accusing his administration of mismanaging the country to show what they achieved during their time in office.
One person might have been killed while many were seriously injured when two groups of armed youths shot at vehicles conveying supporters of the All Progressives Congress from Asari-Toru and Khana Local Government Areas to the inaugural presidential campaign of the APC candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
The twin attack on the convoys of APC supporters was said to have occurred at the same time at abut 5.30am as the party faithful made their way to the Adokiye Amasiemaka Stadium in the Ikwerre Local Government Area.
It was gathered that though nobody died in Khana Local Government Area after the attack along Bori-Saakpenwa Road, some of those who were attacked by the armed youths, alleged that the thugs were working for the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Ogun State chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Adebayo Dayo, has said the party will not lose its sleep concerning the alleged threat by the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, to defect to the Social Democratic Party, describing ex-speaker as a political paperweight in the state.
He said this on Tuesday at the state party secretariat in Abeokuta after inaugurating a 35-member campaign committee for the state governorship candidate of the party, Alhaji Gboyega Isiaka.
The Director- General of the committee, Chief Abayomi Majekodunmi, was one of the governorship aspirants in the state PDP and also a former Chief of Staff to former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Adamu Mu’azu, has warned President Goodluck Jonathan and governors against injustice in the party, saying the ruling party has been degraded by “Use and Dump” politics.
Mr. Mu’azu said opposition parties have fed on PDP’s failure to reward its members, who worked for the party, its governors or the president.
“Mr. President, I want to appeal to you to consider it a challenge to discuss with your governors, Senators and all elected officials of PDP that members of the PDP should not be used and dumped, adhere to equity, fairness and justice,” Mr. Mu’azu said Tuesday.
Mr. Mu’azu spoke at the inauguration Goodluck/Sambo 2015 Presidential Campaign Organisation in Abuja.
