Top 5 Stories of the Day | Dangote Reduces Price of Fuel to ₦860/litre in Lagos State

Dangote Refinery has reduced the price of fuel in Lagos State to ₦860/litre, compared to its previous price of ₦890/litre.

Effective from February 27, 2025, the price of petrol will change for all buyers at MRS filling stations across the state.

According to Dangote Refinery, the price change was introduced to provide relief to the struggling Nigerians ahead of the Ramadan season which will begin from March 1, and to support the President’s economic relief policy.

This is not the first time that Dangote will reduce the price of petrol as it had happened in Decemebr 2024 during the festive period when he slashed the fuel price from ₦970/litre to ₦899/litre.

TUC demands that CBN stops planned ATM fee hike

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has demanded that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) pause its new rule regarding the price hike of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), which is scheduled to be implemented on March 1st.

According to Festus Osifo, the TUC’s President, the CBN is expected to refrain from imposing tough financial policies on Nigerians, as the country has faced enough economic challenges lately.

“We say unequivocally: enough is enough. The Nigerian workers and the general public have endured relentless economic hardship under this administration,” the TUC spoke out.

Air Chief laments implications of exit of Niger from ECOWAS

Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff, stated that the recent exits of Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have considerably escalated the security challenges facing Nigeria’s military.

He mentioned that the departure of the Alliance of Sahel States from ECOWAS has disrupted established security frameworks, directly affecting the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), which has been vital in fighting Boko Haram and ISWAP across Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.

He cautioned that if Chad also decides to withdraw, it would further diminish the MNJTF’s ability to undertake joint operations, thereby increasing the burden on Nigeria’s military.
