Troops of Operation Delta Safe on Sunday killed a notorious kidnapper and gang leader while repelling an attack around Ajakpa community in the creeks of Southern Ondo State.
A statement on Monday by Major Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Center, said the attack was led by kidnap kingpin, Ossy Ibori.
According to the statement, Ibori, was gunned down during the gun duel, along with some of his his gang members.
Abdullahi said other who jumped into the river with gunshot wounds are being searched for.
He said troops recovered one AK-47 Rifle and 4 Magazines.
The statement added that Ossy Ibori and his men had been terrorising parts of Lagos, Ogun and Ondo states.
”They committed many atrocities threatening the peace and security of the general areas.
“Last month, they were part of those who killed an army captain and 2 policemen at Ikorodu.
”Also late last year, they abducted students and staff of a secondary school.
”The criminals, in addition, carried out several attacks at Ese-Odo community around Ajakpa, Safarogbo and Balowo areas.
”The need to flush them out from their hudeout became necessary to ensure peace and security in Ondo state.
”Sadly in the process, one gallant soldier paid the supreme price while 3 others sustained gun shot wounds.
”They have since been moved to military hospital for proper medical attention”.
