Tunde Bakare calls out CAN, others for not backing Osinbajo

by Anike Jacobs

Founding pastor of Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare has openly criticized the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) for endorsing President Goodluck Jonathan in the upcoming elections.

Bakare expressed his opinion against the endorsement purportedly given to Pres. Jonathan at the expense of one of their own, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who is the running mate to the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

According to PM News, Pastor Bakare said he had learnt that Christian leaders held a secret meeting at the Redemption Camp, Ogun state, where they endorsed Jonathan.

The founder of the Latter Rain Assembly said this during a sermon titled: “The sweet and sour ministry of the prophet”. He said the recent turn of events could lead to a ‘sharp division in church insisting that because 2014 was not fixed, a dangerous storm would brew after the general elections since all the stakeholders have refused to heed his warning that the polls should be postponed.”

Bakare said: “A prophet is sent to bring change not build consensus, whenever you compromise what is right in order to gain acceptance with men, you lose acceptance with God.”

He described some Christian leaders as  “palace prophets “, insisting that those men of God were only after their pockets which is why they are supporting Jonathan’s political ambition, and rejecting “their son”.

Bakare alleged that leaders of CAN and PFN had met at the Redemption Camp of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) to pray for the nation and the forthcoming election, but the meeting turned out to be for a secret endorsement of Jonathan’s candidacy.

In attendance at the meeting were Enoch Adeboye of the RCCG, David Oyedepo of Winners’ Chapel, CAN President – Ayo Oritsejafor, PFN President – Felix Omobude, PFN Vice President – Paul Adefarasin, Wale Adefarasin of the Guiding Light Assembly and other key Christian leaders in the nation.

Bakare claimed Pastor Osinbajo was also at the meeting to seek their blessing to support him and the candidacy of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

Here’s the story according to PM News:

Pastor Paul Adefarasin was said to have broken the silence when he asked Adeboye who they should support since his ‘son’, Pastor Osinbajo is vying for the vice presidency with Buhari. They wanted Adeboye to say something and Osinbajo was watching as he believed that ‘Baba’ will certainly ask other leaders to endorse him, but he was disappointed.

Adeboye was said to have told them that he is a man under authority and that since he is under the authority of CAN and PFN, whoever they endorsed, he would support and go with them.

It was then that Oyedepo stood up and said he had prayed and that God was leading him to endorse and support Jonathan and that was the script the Christian leaders adopted at the expense of Osinbajo.

  1. I am disappointed that a man in the person of Mohammed Buhari in this time and age has no regard for human lives and security of life and property of this great country Nigeria.
How will such a man that said (what is boko haram) rule this Great Nation of ours in this present age after telling the whole nation that he will fight Boko Haram? The man that said he will fight insecurity has turn his back on the whole Nation, is such a man qualified to be Nigerian next president?

  2. A false prophet is known by his utterances not coming through. Bakare told us that Obasanjo will not be sworn in. Jesus proved him wrong. Himself and his Redeemed Pastor and his Presidential Candidate in APC will fail and become irrelevant in Nigeria. Buhari is a murderer, a Boko Haram representative, now disturbed that African Nations have gathered against his boys, a man that has no regard for the South or for Christians. The Blood of Owo and that of Brig Bako will speak against him this year.As Head of State his vice as a Northern Muslim. Now he is pretending to have the slightest regard for the feeling of any body who is not a Northern Muslim just because he wants our votes. He will fail and become a forgotten issue. What did he do with 53 suit cases. What about nepotism and over invoicing at PTF. Hypocrisy is worse!

  3. God save the church.Pls let the men of God face the pulpit our primary duty. How on earth can I prefer to be No2 instead of No1
    Ahhhhhh pastor!!!!!

  4. God Save the church. Pls let the men of God face the pulpit our primary duty. How on earth can I prefer to be No2 instead of No1
    Ahhhhhh pastor!!!!!

  5. Osibajo was called to be a pastor and now he is leaving the work God called him for, to go and be vice president. You remember, Tunde Bakare was picked as vice of Buhari in the year 2011and they fail. Both Tunde and Osibajo should check their blble very well and tell me the first minister of the gospel whoever let his work and take public assignment. The people in Jesus’ days wanted to make him king, but he refused. Now help me ask pastor Tunde and Osibajo, were they really called by God or they like to be a pastor? My bible says l will be the head and not the tail. is that scripture not in Tunde Bakare and Osibajo’s bible before they chosed to be omo leyin. Tunde carry big name in the physical but small in the spirit. you better return to your first love for Christ before it is too late.

    1. Sir, may I add to ur advice pls. Do you of any pastor called but still run office work?. Do u have anything to say about their commitment?. Yours

  6. What did Pastor Tunde’s bible tell him abt being the head? If he doesn’t believe in that scripture bcos he was once used as prof. Osinbanjo now does not change the stance of the scripture and that of the pastors that opted for Jonathan. 2 Corinthians 6:14 is not for Christians like them. You re born of God as a Christian, why serving under a man that does not know nor respect your Father and an enemy of Him? The Christians sees the other religions as friends so to win them but Muslims from the north in particular, sees Christians as their core enemies and we re not surprise at it bcos We re born and declared VICTORS before such hatred.

  7. if the citadel of holiness is corrupt what will happen with the body christianity.

  8. We dnt know who to believe again 6billion naira bribe is surely working.Aaa Fiiiiii Ciii. Change sonashan

  9. We pray to d Almighty God for a peaceful election, however I believe the church should not dictate for her people… let d people decide. As for me and my people in Ikwerre, Rivers state we endorses Buhari for presidency.

  10. If Bakare wants to support osunbanjo let him go ahead. The church of God cannot support wat is anti-christian.Am very sure Osinbanjo is not led by God,he wil b disappointd jux as his godfather Bakare…

    1. So, Muslims should also not vote for GEJ in your estimation as it would be anti-islam to do so.
When will we rise above such sentiments and stay focus on those issues that can drive our values high.

  11. If this story is true,we read about the early church that in such gathering, they will enquire first from the Holy Spirit & wait for the Holy Spirit for direction & not an individual.

  12. Is the church which Jesus bought with His blood invariably in support of corruption, with development.I am beginning to be afraid, then where do we run to if the church become this,so so sad.
