Chicken Republic, others named as UBA makes dramatic release of debtors’ list

The release of the names of delinquent debtors by Deposit Money Banks in the country continued on Wednesday, as United Bank of Africa Plc published the names of its customers with non-performing loans.

The list initially had 119 names, but would be recalled at the last-minute for a review, which when finalised ,reduced the names to 56.

It is believed that some of UBA’s major customers approached the bank to re-negotiate their loans when they realized that their names were going to be published publicly.

UBA’s list includes; Highland Marketing Limited with a debt profile of N459.28m, and which has a former Minister of Power and Steel, Mr. Bashir Dalhatu, and two others listed as directors.

Food Concepts Plc, owners of the Chicken Republic brand, came first on UBA debtors’ list with N1.7bn debt.

Others in the first six positions on the list by UBA includes; Meno Oil and Gas Limited, European Soaps and Detergent Limited, Rockbridge Energy Limited and Combase Energy Limited.

Some of the oil and gas sector companies, whose names appeared on the list are Lloyds Energy Limited, N401m; Enegas Power Limited, N400m; Sigab Oil and Marine Services Limited, N330m; OBD Petroleum Limited, N172m; and Vine Oil and Gas Limited, N103m.

Standard Chartered Bank, Keystone Bank and Wema Bank Plc are expected to publish their lists of debtors next week.

So far, the banks that have published their debtors’ lists are; Zenith Bank Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Union Bank Plc, Sterling Bank Plc, Skye Bank Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Heritage Bank Limited, Enterprise Bank Limited, First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Access Bank Plc, Diamond Bank Plc and Unity Bank Plc
