An Apopka, Fla. man was arrested Thursday on charges of burning his one year old with a cigar, pulling her hair, and throwing her to the floor.

Rony Veus, 23, said he felt relieved when he hurt his daughter.  The girl died at the hospital and charges against Veus were upgraded to murder.

The girl, known affectionately as ‘Honey’, had been in the hospital but her condition turned for the worse on Saturday. She was only 15 months old.

Police officers were dispatched to the home after receiving a 911 call, and found Veus giving CPR to the toddler, who Veus said he found lying unconscious and not breathing.

After the girl was taken to the hospital, staff there told officers that the girl had been beaten. Rony Veus was then arrested on charges of aggravated battery on a child.

“When something like this happens your heart goes out to that poor, defenseless child,” said Officer Steven Popp of the Apopka police.

Veus admitted during a police interview that he had thoughts of harming his child and feels relief when he follows through on his violent fantasies. He also admitted that he acted upon his violent thoughts by grabbing the child, throwing her on the bed, pulling her hair, and forcing her to eat cinnamon. He also burned the top of his young daughter’s foot with a cigar.

Veus’ mother said she suspected that something wasn’t right and questioned her son about the burn on the girl’s foot.

“I asked him ‘what’s going on?’ He said he don’t know. I said ‘what did you do with the baby I see something on her feet?’ He say he don’t know,” said Veus’ mother Maritelle Thelemaque.
