“We want our money back” || South African youths are unhappy with Nicki Minaj

by Akan Ido

The youth wing of South Africa’s ‘African National Congress’ is at loggerheads with American singer, Nicki Minaj.

The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Tshwane has written to Minaj’s management, asking for a refund of the R10 million(N147,170,054) deposit she received from the City of Tshwane to perform at the TribeOne Dinokeng Festival in Cullinan.

The three-day event was cancelled last month after organisers pulled out, citing the lack of  adequate facilities as their reason.

Although the money which was paid to the singer was non-refundable, the youth group wants the rapper to return the money, saying she could donate it to a charity.

Lesego Makhubela, speaking on behalf of the league, said, “She knows that she hasn’t worked for the money and there are many charities that she can donate the money to. We don’t want taxpayers’ money to be used on boob jobs.”

Meanwhile, mayoral spokesperson Blessing Manale says the ANC’s agitations are baseless, while also accusing them of trying to gain popularity with the issue.
