From gravity-defying mohawks to crops of frightening frizz and halos of static, you can’t help but crack a smile when looking at these examples of crazy baby hair.
Parenting blogger Ilana Wiles, who runs a site called Mommy Shorts, launched The Most Epic Head of Baby Hair contest this month and to date she has received more than 400 entries from parents.
For extra fun she has been naming each of the tiny tots after celebrities they most look like with Elvis, Danny DeVito and Jack Nicholson among the top contenders.

Others babies have been named after animals such as the ‘peacock’, ‘porcupine’ or ‘shark fin’ because of the way their fine hair falls.
‘Every picture that comes in, I think – it can’t get crazier than THAT!’ Mrs Wiles told MailOnline, ‘And then I get another entry that’s even better.’

The mother-of-two from New York, said that her six-month-old daughter inspired the project.
‘My baby Harlow has had epic hair since the day she was born,’ she explained.
In a graphic announcing her contest she used a silhouette of Harlow’s Mohawk-style hair against the Manhattan skyline.

The majority of the pictures have been branded ‘adorable’ and ‘cute’ by Facebook and Instagram users.
One commentator wrote: ‘The names made me laugh, and the babies made me smile.
‘I have a couple of my oldest when he was a baby with shocking bedhead, still combing through thousands of pictures to find it.’
The winning crop of ‘epic hair’ is set to be announced this weekend.

Mrs Wiles regularly hosts photo projects. Last month she sparked the ‘baby mugging’ photo craze after she took a picture of her baby seemingly peering out of a giant mug.
To create the shot she held a mug above her daughter Harlow as she lay on the floor, so that only her face could be seen bobbing above the rim.
On her blog, Facebook and Instagram pages she invited other parents to do the same and soon the internet was flooded with replica shots.

She added: ‘My husband is used to me posting funny pictures of our kids on the internet.
‘That’s what I have been doing every day for the past two years.
‘I’ve photoshopped Harlow doing skateboard tricks, I’ve compared Mazzy’s [her other daughter] hair to Justin Bieber, I’ve posted evil baby glare-offs between the two of them. My kids better have a sense of humor when they grow up!’

Look-a-likes: For extra fun Mrs Wiles has been naming each of the tots after celebrities – she says the baby to the left could be a member of Duran Duran while the other looks like Jack Nicholson
She is also planning to resurrect her Baby Celebrity Lookalikes competition.
‘That was a contest I did two years ago that was really successful. There are quite a few babies from the Epic Hair Contest that I would reenter into that one. The John C. Reilly for sure.’
