Yes, yes, yes, yes, BBNaija 2018 is overrrrrrrrrrr. Like, we have snapped out of that fun, delirious bubble that lasted 85 days, and primed ourselves back to reality. We are good. On the social media scale of things though, some ex-housemates of the show are still living in a post-Big Brother Naija fairytale, flashing themselves in photo shoots, taking selfies out with celebrities, receiving free branded products and attending glamorous events and award shows.
They are living the life, lamented in Instagram filters and cute emojis, and I can’t help but think about Ricky Martin’s 1999 hit song Livin’ la Vida Loca. To better understand the Instagram Wars, I have to acquaint you with the judging metrics. It’s nothing complicated. Using a percentage scoring system, we would consider Instagram Verification (30%). Followership Count (above 200K attracts 20% and below that is a fail). Celebrity Photos (10%). Luxurious Lifestyle (20%). Communication with Fans (funny? engaging? dismissive? (10%)) and Overall Instagram Activity (10%).
Because of the sheer number of ex-housemates (20), I will only focus on the last five finalists – Miracle, Nina, Tobi, Alex, and Cee-C. No offense to the others.

The Instagram account of Big Brother Naija 2018 winner Miracle has undeniably been busy. His recent posts are a spate of homecoming videos from his trip to Imo. They are nothing spectacular, but his picture with the state governor Rochas Okorocha is worthy of note. Quoting myself from this piece I wrote before Miracle won, he’s yet to become a kind of sexy, super-pilot, turning his Instagram into an elaborate, stunningly exotic feed with airborne selfie taken and idyllic landscape photographed. But he’s been cruising around town in his brand-new SUV, and that should count for something.

With slay-worthy pictures and a burgeoning magnet for stylists and fashion designers, Nina’s Instagram is a statement of independence. Though her romantic ties with Miracle still exists (sorry Collins), she’s been be able to carve her own image and presence on the social media platform, whether updating us on fancy lunch dates with friends or advertising Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Since Big Brother Naija came to an end, Tobi’s Instagram activity has continuously crept into my Instagram explore page. It can be mildly annoying, thanks to Instagram’s algorithmic mechanism for pushing out high engagement posts. Tobi likes to engage with his fans – his Instagram Stories is always on overdrive and celebrities like Falz and Banky W and even the Vice President have hobnobbed with the newly minted star. Even more, he and a lucky fan will be flying to Dubai in June. Tobi is the man.

Alex likes to party (obviously, duh). On Instagram, she’s unhinged and free and a competent catalyst for mass partying. Which is why clubs and lounges want to host her. Recently, her followership hit 500k and still counting. Her fan engagements are blissfully impulsive and shelled with humour, rounding her up as the zany, still-familiar oddball character from the reality show.
Cee-C

Surprisingly, Cee-C’s Instagram is muted and calm, and pales in comparison to her cantankerous presence on the Big Brother Naija. As a worthy competitor, and emerging as the first runner up, her Instagram verification solidifies her celebrity status. She knows how to rock an outfit, and Chioma, celebrity chef and girlfriend of pop star Davido, think she’s cool.
From the total scores, it’s obvious that our Big Brother Naija 2018 alumni didn’t do too well in luxurious lifestyle. From their Instagrams, I wanted to see photos or videos on vacations and exotic trips, expensive meals or something mindblowingly luxurious. Also, Miracle, Tobi and Cee-C are jointly tied in their scores. But a winner must emerge. Although yet to happen, Tobi’s fan-based competition running via his Instagram account will take a lucky follower to Dubai. Sounds luxurious to me, and this puts Tobi ahead, making him the winner of the Instagram Wars.
