Arik resumes operations after one-day workers’ strike

Arik Airline on Wednesday resumed flights after workers had shut down operations over non-payment of salaries and other anti-labour activities on Tuesday.

The workers had also protested the non-remittance of taxes and sacking of five union leaders.

Arik in a statement said the issue has been resolved “following the meeting called by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to address the airline and the aviation unions.”

The airline said it has provided bigger planes to cope with the backlog of passengers whose flights were affected by the strike.

Union leader, Tokunbo Korodo also confirmed the suspension of the strike.

We met the management of Arik last night and they agreed to pay the arrears of salaries by December 31,” Korodo said.

He said those sacked will also also be recalled by the airline.

“If Arik refuses to honour the deal by December 31, we will resume the strike,” he warned.
