Appeal Court nullifies Murtala Nyako’s impeachment as Adamawa governor

A Court of Appeal sitting in Yola has reversed the impeachment of Murtala Nyako as Governor of Adamawa.

Back in July 15, 2014, 17 out of 25 members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly had adopted a report of a panel that investigated alleged corruption of Nyako as governor of the state and thereafter impeached him.

Justice Tunde Ayotoye, who led a team of judges in delivering judgement stated that all the judges in unity agreed that due process was not followed in the impeachment of Nyako.

He also stated that the right of the governor was violated in the process.

The Court therefore ordered that all the processes that led to the impeachment null and void.

The court ordered that Nyako be given all right of the office of the governor of Adamawa State through the period of office, and also that he be paid all his entitlement as governor of the state while it lasted.
