Everybody has an opinion about why former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration failed.
The former registrar of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ayorinde Ogunruku, said corruption reached its peak during Jonathan’s tenure because of his careless attitude towards corruption and because he took things for granted.
Ogunruku, who spoke at the 51st Annual General Meeting of the Young Men Christian Association on Saturday, maintained that Jonathan’s approach to the fight against corruption was careless.
“Quite unfortunately, the Jonathan government seemed to have been worse than others preceding it. Not only did corruption reach its peak considering the number of high profile cases, there was a seeming acquiescence by the then (Jonathan) government.
“The body language of the former president was that which seemed to tolerate the nefarious cankerworm. The matters involving certain officials of his government in the petroleum and aviation ministries left many disgusted,” Ogunruku said.
Punch reported that he suggested an ethical revolution that would change the general attitude of the people to a conscience-driven habit as a way to curb corruption in the country.
