Governor Ambode slips hard, Yahaya Bello sinks to the bottom completely | The YNaija Effectiveness Ranking for Governors

The Kogi State Governor received several knocks this week for appointing 54 Senior Special Assistants in the state. Yahaya Bello, who has been, for some time, locked in a bizarre feud with Dino Melaye, has been the subject of much criticism which, while harsh, is perfectly reasonable. Perhaps there could genuinely be some use for that many aides. It’s possible that all of that recurrent expenditure by government, on government itself has some logical explanation. But until Governor Bello finds reason to explain the move, it’s enough to sink him to the bottom of our list.

Governor Ambode of Lagos State cedes the top spot back to Governor Obiano of Anambra State, due to a mix bag of actions. Take, first of all, the disappointing move to demolish houses in the Otodo Gbame community in Lagos. Beyond the fact of these demolitions becoming almost routine for the state, the execution of this, after a High Court ruled against it, is particularly worrisome. On the other hand, the halting of work on Lekki Gardens‘ new estate signifies a resolution to prevent a disaster like the Lekki Gardens building collapse of last year.  This, in addition to the recently announced N100b bond to facilitate the replacement of yellow Danfo buses in Lagos, are really the only reasons Governor Ambode slips only to #10 and not to the absolute bottom.
