Peoples Democratic Party are reportedly making moves to scuttle the ratification of the nomination of former River State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as a minister.
Rotimi Amaechi was screened on Thursday by the Senate, after his screening had been postponed three times.
The PDP Senators however, refused to participate in the process, owing to the fact that the Ethics Committee was yet to submit its report on Amaechi.
Following the screening, the PDP Senators are believed to have started making moves to block his confirmation.
The PDP Senators are irked over the fact that Senate President, Bukola Saraki went ahead with Amaechi’s screening, disregarding the consideration of the Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions report on alleged fraud against him.
The opposition Senators believe that Amaechi shouldn’t have been screened until he’s been able to clear himself of all allegations.
During the closed session prior to Amaechi’s screening, the matter was discussed and it was agreed that the ministerial nominee will be told to simply ‘bow and go’, only for the All Progressives Congress senators to do otherwise during the screening.
Feeling betrayed, the PDP Senators have accused Saraki of breaching Senate rules by side tracking the report.
Consequently, the aggrieved opposition Senators are hell-bent on scuttling Amaechi’s confirmation at the senate.
It is believed that they have resolved to oppose Amaechi’s confirmation next week and insist on the consideration of the report of the Ethics Committee.
But it is highly unlikely that the PDP Senators can successfully block the confirmation of Amaechi, owing to the fact that they are in the minority in the upper chamber.
