Ogunlewe steps down as FUNAAB pro-chancellor

Former Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, has resigned his appointment as the Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, The Punch reports.

Ogunlewe, who was recently arraigned by the EFCC on an 18-count charge cited personal reasons for his decision.

He was arraigned alongside the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof. Olusola Oyewole; and the Bursar of the institution, Mr. Moses Ilesanmi.

They had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Shortly after tendering his resignation on Wednesday, Ogunlewe said his decision had nothing to do with his trial.

He said, “I have decided to resign my appointment as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta with immediate effect. This is due to personal reasons.

“I sincerely thank the Federal Government for giving me the opportunity to serve. The Federal Government should please accept the assurances of my best regards.”

The former minister was appointed as the pro-chancellor of the institution in February 2013 by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
