Ondo female speaker impeached on International Women’s Day

While the world was celebrating International Women’s Day -a day set aside to celebrate women and their achievement- a woman was being booted out of office.

Speaker of the Ondo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jumoke Akindele and her deputy, Hon. Fatai Olotu, were on Tuesday impeached by 18 out of 26 lawmakers, for reasons yet to be made known.

Hon. Iroju Ogundeji from Odigbo loca government was subsequently elected as Speaker and Hon. Ayo Arowele from Owo local government as deputy speaker.

Akindele was a practicing lawyer before she ventured into politics in 2006. She was elected in May 2004, and was re-elected again in 2015 by the 8th Assembly.
