As Nigeria marks her Independence anniversary today, Twitter is resounding with the hopes and dreams of the Nigerian citizenry. Some are full of optimism; a number reckon we have got nothing to celebrate; some would like us to use the day to meditate on where we’ve gone wrong as a nation and how we can do better; some reminisce on those we have lost to war and others are simply grateful for little mercies.
Do see below:
Congratulations as our country celebrates her 56th anniversary today. I believe that in my lifetime & yours, our nation will be transformed.

I see a Nigeria that will be a tourist destination & people from all over the world will come & find out how this economic miracle happened.

I see a Nigeria that would turn around from being a consumer oriented economy, to a producer oriented economy. #NigerianIndependenceDay

#NigeriaAt56 but most leaders both past and serving are older than the country itself. When will the future come for the youths to serve?

Happy In-Dependence Day, Nigeria. It's been a really rough ride, 56 years of tolerating criminals who had no business managing a nation.

October 1 should be made national day of reflections, to see how we squandered our opportunities and created this mess we call a country.
— Gimba Kakanda (@gimbakakanda) September 30, 2016
We need to define Nigeria as an idea – one that every constituent micro-nation will be proud to embrace. https://t.co/RftFntP0fP

I'm glad to be Nigerian. It doesn't matter that we are in such a mess. I see it as an opportunity to create an eternal legacy.
