Unilag lecturer slaps woman and tears her clothes

Well this is what scarcity of petrol in the country can reduce anyone who has a car and is being directly affected to.

A lecturer with the University of Lagos, Mr Arthur Avwokeni Joseph, was recently detained at Alade Police Station, Somolu, Lagos, after he allegedly fought a lady at petrol station and tore her clothes.

Apparently, the 47-year-old, who works at the Business Administration Department of the university, went to a filling station along Fola Agoro Road, Somolu to buy fuel when there was an altercation between him and 28-year old Adeparusi Yetunde over who should buy fuel first.

Joseph was alleged to have alighted from his car, and told Yetunde that if she were one of his students he would have dealt with her.

After the threat and further exchange of words between them, Joseph allegedly slapped Yetunde, and in the ensuing scuffle her clothes were also torn.

Joseph was also said to have seized Yetunde’s cell phone while Yetunde also seized some of his books.

In a twist of events, it was reported that it was actually Joseph who went to Alade police station to report the incident. But when asked of the whereabouts of Yetunde, he said he did not know.

He was then asked to write a statement and while writing the statement, the phone in Joseph’s possession rang. When the police officer answered the call and asked if she was the owner, Yetunde said yes, and was asked to come to Alade Police station where it was discovered that her clothes were torn.

Joseph and Yetunde were both detained after they wrote their statements but were later granted bail.

  1. When things like these happen, the credibility of the parties should be called into question. The story by pm news is incomplete and unbalanced. A lecturer cannot just step out of his car to slap a woman and tore her clothes on exchange of words; there should be some actions from the lady–Yetunde Adeparusi. PM news should check and cross check facts before carrying news. A source said the so called Yetunde was connected to the boss of pm news and had sent two of his/her ‘news carriers’ after them to X-SQUAD were the matter was settled between the lecturer and the DPO, not even the Yetunde. Another source said Yetunde loss her parents and become wayward at school, and advised Yetunde to cool down now that she is out of school. A germane question is, why did pm news not disclose the job status of Yetunde Adeparusi? A lady driving a car should be a working class or from a rich home. There was no mention that her father or any uncle did that or that, suggesting that she is most likely an orphan, with no responsible family member. We are all aware of how rude prostitutes or night clubbers could be; they have no shame and can go to any length to get anything. Given her background, she is most likely to be of this class.

PM news, please try add some credibility to journalism. If a paper like Punch or some others that have a name in the Journalism industry were to carry such minor squabbles at a fuel station, I am sure University of Lagos would have reacted by now. These kinds of “irresponsible Journalism” could lead the Government to ban the use of social media. This is not too good for Journalism. PM news please save us, and to the so called boss of pm news who sent his ‘news carriers’ after Yetunde, please care for your news carrier, for a source said they were looking dirty, and hungry and nothing more than some church rats.

PM news boss, what goes around comes around!

  2. At the fuel station, Yetunde slapped me, damaged my back windscreen wiper, as well as broke a decorator at the back of my car. She did not stop there, but went into my car and took an envelope containing 3 copies of a textbook, a letter and the sum of four thousand naira. I was able to take her phone for identification which I rightly took to the Alade Police Station, and was contacted.

The DPO took sides with Yetunde though he detained both parties to portray a picture of neutrality. For example, Yetunde said she never paid a kobo to get bailed but I paid the sum of five thousand naira. Again, Yetunde closed the case without paying a kobo but I was asked to pay the sum of fifty thousand naira, which I reported to the CP, Lagos State. Eventually, my envelope was given to me without paying a kobo.

In any case, I look forward to see the publication tomorrow so that I can sue for character assassination. You paint a picture that portray me thief.

I want to advise that you should pay your staff well. The said staff and a lady who were at the X-Squad today with Yetunde look like people who are sick without food. Please, if you are the said Yetunde’s father, did you see the coat the young man put on? Did you see the lady that came with her? Please, take care of them so that they would not be tempted to …
