In a lot of ways, 2016 has been a very stressful year. Hopefully, it hasn’t been as stressful for you as it has been for our dear nation, Nigeria.
Still, there is a lot to be thankful for. And so, in our special version of ’12 days of Christmas’, we’ll remind you – with the Good News only – of the reasons why things have not all been bad so far.
Without further ado:
On the first day of Christmas
2016 sent to us:
The Number 1 best female football team in Africa;
The Super Falcons!
When the FIFA released it’s annual female football ranking, on the 25th of March this year, it was with utmost pleasure that we found that our dear team retained their top spot in Africa.
And they haven’t let us down so far.
On the 3rd of December, despite the refusal of the Nigerian government to pay their allowances, the team beat their Cameroonian counterparts to win the African Women’s Championship for the 8th time since 1998.
Through this win, the Falcons’ coach, Florence Omagbemi made history as the first person to win the continental championship first as a player and then as a coach.
We’d go on to say how they have been peaceful yet resilient in demanding their allowances from the Federal Government but remember we said Good News only!
