A 17 year old boy, Usman Abdu, on Friday took his own life over the rejection of a marriage proposal to his 12 year old cousin, according to Vanguard.

Usman, a resident of Ganja ward in Ganjuwa local government area of Bauchi State, is said to have committed the act at about 9pm, when he hung himself from a tree using a rope.

Speaking on the incident, the Bauchi State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed, said “Preliminary investigation revealed that victim hanged himself when his cousin, a 12 years old girl of the same address rejected his marriage proposal.”

“Exhibit recovered include rope which the victim used in hanging himself while the corpse has released to relative for burial after postmortem examinations.”
