18-year-old DJ kills barber with pestle

An eighteen year old Disc Jockey (DJ), Ugbede Iyeh, has been remanded in prison custody by a Lokoja Chiefs’ Magistrate Court for killing his friend, a barber, Ikani Amodu, 30, with a pestle.

The teenager was paraded before Chief Magistrate Levi Animoku who described the killing as “horrifying”.

The prosecutor Tuesday Ganagana told the court that the case was reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Dekina and Criminal Investigation Intelligence Department, Lokoja, by Samson Ebenehi, the elder brother of the deceased.

Ganagana said the incident occurred at about 8am on August 28 when the accused visited the barbing saloon of the deceased on the pretext of trying to download some music tracks from the deceased laptop computer into his own.

During the process the accused deleted all the tracks of the deceased which led to a misunderstanding.

Afterwards the deceased picked up a pestle and hit the barber with it on the head.

Ganagana said the braber fell and became unconscious and was rushed to Peace Hospital, Anyigba where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The prosecutor said the police was the investigating the matter as he requested for another date to mention the case.

He also reminded the court that the offence of culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Penal Code was not ordinarily bailable and therefore, urged the court to remand the accused in prison custody.

The Chief Magistrate said the offence carried the highest penalty and remanded the accused at the Federal Prisons, Dekina.

He also transferred the case to the Chief Magistrate Court in Dekina, and adjourned it till Sept. 27 for mention.
