Ayo Opadokun, the Convener of the Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms, has enjoined the Nigeria military to dismiss any officer found guilty of working with politicians to rig the 2014 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.

Opadokun, stated this in an interview on Wednesday, pointing out that the outcome of the probe would serve as a deterrent to other military officers who might want to carry out similar assignments.

He said: “The outcome of the probe panel instituted by the military authorities will serve as a deterrent to other military officers and warn them of their public conduct during elections. If the dubious conduct of the soldiers is not prevented, the necessary cohesion and oneness that the military signifies could be harmed.

“The soldiers found guilty should be expelled. Expulsion is the minimum punishment for them. Such military officers must serve adequate punishment to serve as a deterrent in future elections.”

“The military institution was misused to the detriment of our people, the taxpayers. With President Buhari in power, a trained soldier who exhibited discipline in his past military assignments, the probe of those very negative unprofessional conducts of the military is good.

“Those who watched the clips of the military escapade and conspiracy which involved Governor Fayose and Senator Obanikoro, and a former Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, felt betrayed that the Nigerian Army in a dubious collaborative manner really falsified the will of the people to favour the PDP in the elections.”
