‘I was asleep when Fayose called to say I’d be PDP Chairman’ – Sheriff

Ali Modu Sheriff, has lauded the efforts of Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose and other Nigerians who worked for his emergence as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Speaking on Thursday, at the PDP secretariat in Ekiti, the opposition party’s chairman said he was ‘sleeping in his room’ when Fayose called him and offered him the job.

Sgeriff said: “I never planned to be the PDP Chairman but God used people like Fayose and other Nigerians to make me the chairman (of the party).”

“I was sleeping in my room when Fayose called me from Port Harcourt and said I was going to be the new National Chairman. For me, it was a miracle.”

“God chose Fayose for Ekiti people because of his popularity in the state. He was taken to the prison and eight years after, he came back. People won’t be happy with the governor if he has not been fair to them.”

Speaking in a similar vein, Fayose said he supported Sheriff to become the PDP chairman because he had the capacity to rebuild the party.

He said: “We know you have the capacity to restore the PDP and make it survive. You have the means and experience and we promise that we will always stand by you.”
