Several people were injured yesterday in Iwo, Osun state as supporters of the ruling party All Progressives Congress (APC), clashed with supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), during the re-election campaign of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

According to reports, the fight broke out when some men suspected to be supporters of PDP allegedly attacked a bus carrying market women on their way to the campaign ground.

In retaliation, several APC supporters allegedly traced the attackers to their hideout starting a new round of violence which left many wounded.

Reports say that one of the wounded is critically injured and receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Governor Aregbesola was said to have frowned at the development when briefed and ordered security operatives to ensure adequate security of lives and property on all campaign grounds.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officers PPRO, Mrs Folashade Odoro, said she was yet to be briefed on the development

Meanwhile, Aregbesola urged his supporters not to be intimidated by the presence of soldiers and police officers at polling centres during the August 9 governorship election in the state.

Addressing his supporters during the campaign rally in Iwo, Aregbesola stressed that the soldiers had no right to send electorates away during elections.

According to him “If soldiers attempt to shoot you, do not run away from them. They can’t kill all of you. In fact, any soldier that kills will be killed.”

Aregbesola also encouraged his supporters not to leave the polling centres until the election results were announced.
