The Nigerian Army has been very busy lately battling not only insurgency but also the spread of diseases.

So far, at least, 10,446 people living in the South-East and Cross River have benefited from the Army’s medical outreach through its Operation Python Dance II in the region.

They also played a little of Santa Claus, distributing food items, sweets, and chocolates to Primary school students in the region.

But the Army’s medical escapade did not deter the crackdown on insurgency in the country.

The Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai revealed that the Federal Government is acquiring and installing modern technologies to aid the fight against the insurgent group, Boko Haram.

This development, he said, was achieved through the government’s collaboration with the United States (U.S.), Israel, United Kingdom (U.K.), Jordan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, state governors are asking the Federal Government to release the 50 percent balance of Paris Club refund by November.

Their request is coming barely a day after their meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Tuesday scolded them for still owing workers salaries despite the intervention of the federal government.

On a lighter note, veteran footballer, Nwankwo Kanu has launched a lotto to raise funds for the Kanu Heart Foundation (KHF) and help build a specialist cardiac hospital in Abuja.

The KHF lotto offers a jackpot starting at N1 billion and, according to a statement by Kanu, 20 percent of every ticket sold will go directly to KHF to help it continue its work.
