Buhari tasks security agencies on violence-free polls in Rivers, Ondo

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said security agencies in the country must ensure that the elections in Ondo and Rivers States are violence-free.

According to a statement by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, Buhari gave the directive at a State dinner in Benin.

The President was quoted as saying both elections will serve as representations of what Nigerians should expect at the 2019 general elections.

He said, “What happened in (the last elections) Kogi, Bayelsa and Rivers State disturbs me a lot.

“I think we should go beyond these actions. Why do we kill each other? Putting tyres on people and setting them ablaze.

“I have told the law enforcement agencies, if we can’t conduct election in one state then we should forget about 2019.”
