Hillary Clinton in the midst of her book promotion and reeling from her election defeat has called the confession and explanation of Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting last summer with a Russian attorney with ties to the Kremlin as “ridiculous” and “an absurd lie”.
Trump Jr, then advisor in the Trump’s campaign team met last summer with a Russian attorney whom he had been led to believe was in possession of damaging information about his father’s opponent, Clinton. Trump Jr. initially denied the essence of the meeting but was later forced to concede the true reason for the meeting which was to collect negative information on the Democrats candidate.
Speaking in an interview with “NBC’S Today”, she said, “It’s ridiculous. It’s another absurd lie to cover up what really was going on, which I hope we finally uncover and understand”.
Trump Jr. has said during the meeting with House Intelligence Committee that he didn’t gather useful information from the meeting which was also attended by Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law.
Clinton in her book “What happened” didn’t outrightly blame the Trump campaign for colluding with Russian officials but laid claims to some connections which might indicate its possibility.
She said, “What I try to do in the book is to put forth all the information that I think should trouble Americans, whether you’re Republicans or Democrats or anything else,” she said.
“We know that there was communication. That certainly has come out, and we know that there was a lot of interesting coincidences, if you will, between what people associated with Trump were saying at the time and what later came to pass,” she added.
