Court remands man for killing his 2 daughters

A 29-year-old man Samuel Anyaogu has been remanded in prison for allegedly killing his two daughters, The Punch reports.

The prosecutor of the case, Tuesday Ganagana said the incident was reported at the ‘A’ Police Division in Lokoja by the mother of the deceased, Grace Edwin, a concubine of the accused.

According to the Ganagana, Anyaogu killed one of the girls, nine-month-old, Chinonso by suffocating her. He killed the second child, two-year-old Miracle by hitting her on the head with a heavy metal.

He disposed the bodies of the deceased in a stream in Lokoja. He threatened to kill the Edwin if she told anyone about the cause of the death of the two children.

Counsel to the accused, Mr O.S. Atokolo, applied for Anyaogu’s bail, citing Section 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution; and Section 341(2) of the Criminal Code, which was opposed by the prosecutor.

While delivering his ruling Mr Levi Animoku of the Lokoja Chief Magistrates’ Court rejected the bail application, describing the crime as horrific.

He said, “It is the highest crime known to our laws. This court declines to admit the accused to bail. Consequently, he shall be remanded at the Federal Prison, Koton-Karfe.”
