Justice Umar evicts Saraki’s security, lawyer says ‘nobody will assassinate you’

Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Umar Danladi, on Wednesday, ordered the security detail of Senate President Bukola Saraki out of the tribunal and warned them to stay out of the court room throughout the legal proceedings.

Danladi, who is presiding over the trial of Saraki for false declaration of asset while he served as Kwara state governor form 2003 to 2011, noted that the order was to ensure safety of everyone present in the court.

He expressed his displeasure over the video that was shared on social media platforms wherein he and Saraki’s counsel exchanged hot words, while noting that the clip was illegal and misleading to the public.

The CCT chairman thereafter barred the use of any electronic recording device in the courtroom.

Umar stated that: “We have observed that some armed security agents are at the tribunal. We want such security men to stay outside. They should stay outside of the court hall not inside. It is for the protection of us here.”

Meanwhile, Saraki’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, asked the judge not to be worried as nobody will assassinate him.

“My prayer is for peace and understanding. By God’s grace, you are in that post to be instrumental. I believe harmony and love will prevail.”

“That is why I always urge you not to be angry because anger is not of God, but of the devil.”

“Generations to come will adore you if you are humble and humane. Nobody will assassinate you, but you should be an advocate for peace.”
