If you can’t beat her, kiss her.
That was apparently Diana Taurasi’s strategy during Thursday night’s WNBA playoff game as the former UConn star’s Phoenix Mercury team was getting drilled by the Minnesota Lynx.
In the most famous basketball kiss since Isiah Thomas planted one on Magic Johnson before an NBA Finals game in 1988, Taurasi pressed her lips against Lynx guard Seimone Augustus’ cheek after the two were battling for position in the fourth quarter of Game 1 of the Western Conference finals.
The pair, who have played together on the U.S. national team, were both hit with fouls on the play. The Lynx, with Augustus scoring 18 points, won the game, 85-62.
So apparently no need for the two to kiss and make up when the teams meet in Game 2 in Phoenix on Sunday.
