Nigerians have over the last few weeks been treated to several episodes in the drama around the politics in the country. Interestingly, a huge number of citizens are speaking with unified voices in demand for justice and good governance as they pay close attention to these matters.

A few days ago, it was the hearing on the alleged corruption in the NDDC that sparked outrage on social media as many speculated that the stunt pulled by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Acting Managing Director, Daniel Pondei, was all a scheme to wriggle his way out of questions directed at his accountability.

For many, what appears to be a worrisome trend of politicians attempting to wriggle their way out of questions geared at ensuring accountability, is becoming a daily occurrence and the development is generating increased reactions across social media.

The latest is a probe by the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on the suspension of the management of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) that degenerated to an ‘age and influence contest’ between the Chairman of the Committee, James Faleke and Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige.

Chris Ngige was asked to give account of his stewardship and he retorted to reminding the fellow that he’s 7 years older than him. Typical of Nigerian elders. If anyone is still telling you that Nigeria will get better, they’re deceiving you. You’ll thrive in Seychelles better.

For some, these developments serve as continuous relief from the myriad of sorry tales that pervades the land, but a vast majority of Nigerians across social media are championing the call for more government agencies and commissions to be probed and investigated with a view to taking appropriate actions that would serve as deterrent to others.

Ngige's dressing-down of Faleke highlights the I-am-older-than you excuse with which people in OFFICIAL places pass up responsibility.

I'd have understaood if Ngige disgareed with Faleke on the basis of things like competence or moral presence.

But age? In an official context?
