Game of Thrones leads Emmy nominations yet again

The nominations for the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which will honor the best in U.S. prime time television programming, chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, were announced on Thursday, July 14, 2016 and as expected Game of Thrones dominated.

The American fantasy drama television series grabbed 23 nominations, one short of the record 24 nominations it received in 2015. This includes the top award of the night – outstanding drama series category, which it won last year.

Coming behind was The People v OJ Simpson – a series about the infamous murder trial of former American football player, OJ Simpson. It claimed an astounding 22 nominations.

The nominations were announced by Anthony Anderson (Black-ish) and Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life) alongside Television Academy Chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum.

The award ceremony which will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel takes place on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
