These days, Plateau State is only in the news on issues bordering on violence, conflict, and death, it sadly seems. No solution has worked from military intervention to peace parleys to political horse trading in changing this trend.
Its government now offers a reason why.
According to the state’s governor, Jonah Jang, he has received revelation from God on the cause of all that has befallen the once peaceful state. Jang’s revelation was that the situation is the result of the wrath of God as punishment for the sins of the people.
Jang made this known when he led a delegation which included security chiefs, to sympathise with the people of Riyom Council over the killing of two lawmakers from the state.
The solution to all the crises according to the governor is for the people to exhibit total repentance so that “God would cleanse their sins and make the state a better place to stay”.
Before his speech was done, the governor called on the youths not to totally rely on the security presence, but to work hard to protect themselves from the enemies.
