Last week, along with his announcement of his departure from Chocolate City Music, Ice Prince disclosed that his contract with the label expired 3 years ago.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, where his label Super Cool Cats was launched under Chocolate City Music, Ice Prince explained the reason why he decided to stick with the label even after the expiration of his contract.
According to the rapper, he was trying to play safe so that people won’t start jumping into conclusions as to why he left the label.
He said, “My contact with Chocolate City Music expired 3 years ago but you know how it is in Nigeria and this is the plain truth; if I had come out 3 years ago and said ‘contact over, peace’, the way people would interpret it would be very bad. Not just bad for me but also bad for my brothers (M.I and Jesse Jagz) and the legacy we have built.”
“It took me a while because I was trying to figure the best way to go about it without people thinking there was a fight somewhere. That kinda stuff affects record label business.”
In June 2015, Ice Prince was named Vice President of Chocolate City Music alongside M.I as the president after Audu Maikori stepped down as the CEO of the music company.
