In this together: Road to President Jonathan’s Otueke submerged by flood

by Reuben Daba
Apparently, the floods ravaging the nation presently do not respect persons. Not even the road leading to Otuoke, President Jonathan’s home town was spared, as it has been submerged by the floods.
The road, which is the shortest route from Yenegoa, the Bayelsa capital, to Otueke, has now been abandoned by motorists who now traverse alternate routes.
Some residents blamed the severity of the situation on the poor state of the road, with one resident, Emmanuel, describing it as “shoddy”.
He said, “The road connects many communities, including Otuoke. But it has become a death trap in recent times. Many accidents occur on this road because it has many dangerous bends. Apart from that there is no drainage. This is the reason why has been over taken by flood.”
He called on the president to give the road leading to his hometown a facelift.
The road in question was reportedly constructed when Jonathan was governor of Bayelsa, with the state government shouldering half the burden, and the Niger Delta Development Commission, the other half.
