Sue Austin has been wheelchair-bound since 1996 but she never let her disability bring her down or keep her from reaching her dreams. Seven years ago Austin has learned scuba diving.

Austin who is an artist has created a unique performance in which she combines scuba diving with dance.She performed her underwater show called ‘Creating the Spectacle’ as part of the Cultural Olympiad during the Paralympics at the Osprey Leisure Centre in Weymouth.Austin had her wheelchair modified with swimming floats, fins and propulsion units controlled by her feet. She said she had initially been told by engineers the wheelchair design, would not work underwater. But she did what it took to prove them wrong.

Austin wowed the audience with her spectacular underwater performance. She has created something new and exciting and it’s really getting people talking.

“Everyone loved it, this just goes to show that with determination one can achieve their dreams,” said one woman in audience who saw her performance.
