It beats our collective imagination, really?

We’re sure it has crossed your minds too how everyone is freaking out with excitement since Banky W and Adesua Etomi announced their relationship/engagement/love story on Instagram yesterday. The emotions, love and goodwill have been overwhelming and it has not stopped flowing 24 hours after.

Before you start thinking we’re making assumptions, check your Instagram Explore and Twitter trends. Who do you see? Of course, Banky W and Adesua Etomi. The couple have effortlessly taken over every conversation and it has us asking a few questions and the first is very straightforward “What is our business?“. The other question is “when was the last time Nigerians were united about anything like this, especially as it relates to the entertainment industry?” Think about it, really.

We come together to condemn our government’s antics; recently when our President went on ghost mode, we collectively raised the question “Where is Buhari?”; we join our voices to react to national idiots whenever and wherever they arise BUT…we still usually have a lot of dissenting views. And this is the exact reason we’re astounded by this ‘unity in joy’.

We’ll explore a few possibilities, however weak they may be because, of course, this article sprung from a few confused minds.

Let’s begin with Banky. So far in his music and fine boy career, we can’t place a finger on any wrong he has done. Banky W has played safe in the industry, stayed out of controversy and has constantly wowed us with a number of surprise acts he’s put up. Banky the singer, the rapper, the director, the record label boss, the professional groomsman, the fashionista, the actor and everything else in between.

Then for Adesua Etomi. Do we really need to do any talking? She’s been in our lives for only about three years but she has done so well, extremely well in fact and it’s only right that we love her. It was her role in The Wedding Party movie that sealed everything.

The coming together of two industry sweethearts is bound to birth overwhelming attention and love. So does this sufficiently explain why we all carried the matter on our heads?

We’re not completely sure considering we’re a people who have tendencies of raising suspicions when it comes to celebrities and their love stories. Not entirely our fault. The divorce stories did that to us. For some reason, we’re optimistic about this duo, we’re sure they’ll stand the test of time and we won’t have it any other way.

For now though, we have to sincerely thank the couple for making us a happy people, until we all return to our real problem: Where is our president?
