LASU demotes professor over alleged lack of qualifications

The Lagos State University has demoted a Professor, Olatunji Abanikannda to a senior lecturer over alleged lack of qualification.

The demotion was confirmed by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Olanrewaju Fagbohun in a chat with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Fagbohun said the University management demoted the professor on the recommendation of  the governing council.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (‎ASUU) LASU chapter had filed a petition alleging that the former Vice-Chancellor, John Obafunwa, promoted the lecturer without due process.

Some members of staff had also reportedly lodged the same complain.

A five-man panel was inaugurated to investigate the allegations.

The panel after several investigations, recommended the demotion of Abanikannda.

Abanikannda was the immediate past Director, LASU External System (part-time programme)‎.
