Recording a rare feat, a 20-year-old student, Mhairi Black, was elected as a member of the British parliament.
Black becomes the youngest British MP since 1667 as she beat beat Labour party’s shadow foreign secretary Douglas Alexander in the seat of Paisley.
While delivering her acceptance speech, Black who ran under the Scottish National Party, said: “This election is about making the voice of this constituency and the whole of Scotland heard more effectively in Westminster than ever before.”
“I pledge to use this voice not just to improve Scotland, but to pursue progressive politics for the benefit of people across the UK.”
