The Imo State police command have announced the arrest of 16 suspects in connection with the kidnap of Nkiru Sylvanus, the special assistant to the governor on public affairs.
The police command spokesman, Vitalis Onugu said this was achieved during a raid of what it described as a kidnappers’ den in the state.
He added that the suspects are currently assisting the police in its ongoing investigation into the kidnap case.
Sylvanus, a popular actress, was said to be on location for a movie in Owerri, the Imo State capital, when she was abducted.
The abductors were reported to have arrived the location in a tinted Sports Utility Vehicle with sirens blaring and also shooting into the air to scare residents.
Meanwhile, the state governor, Rochas Okorocha has expressed displeasure over the incident.
Okorocha said, “The perpetrators may have engaged in that wicked act to embarrass the state government and possibly make mockery of the intensified efforts of this administration and security agencies to end kidnapping in the state.”
