RIP: Irawo Adamolekun laid to rest amidst tears; sister denies assassination rumours

by Isi Esene

Irawo Adamolekun, the young doctor who was killed at the Anthony Village end of Ikorodu Road by a yet to be identified gunman was yesterday laid to rest amidst tears.

A well attended funeral service was held for the 27-year-old doctor at Our Saviour’s Church, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

Speaking about her late younger brother, Ojia Adamolekun denied any story suggesting that her brother was assassinated. She said whoever shot her brother must be one of those individuals on the streets with no opportunity to get an education or a job.

She said, “My brother was not assassinated, I repeat, my brother was not assassinated. He was murdered because the country failed the individual who held the trigger. He (the gunman) who robbed my brother and killed him wasn’t given the opportunity to go to school, he wasn’t given a job.

“Every citizen should be entitled to a kind of job whether he or she is educated or an illiterate and if not, the poor will continue to attack the middle class which my brother fell into.

“I appeal to everyone to love one another and help the less privileged in our midst and put an end to all these (robbery attacks) because it might be your brother tomorrow.”

She reportedly added that her brother might have survived the attack if the emergency response system in the state was quick and effective.

She said, “I know the Lagos State Government have some emergency points on some major roads and I hope they are not just there for decoration. I believe that if emergency services were immediately available he might have survived it.

“Meanwhile,  some policemen fled the scene of the incident when my brother was shot. I wonder why the police want to interview me now and take my statements. Is that not medicine after death? I really have some questions to ask them (police),” she said.

Among the family, friends and colleagues at Adamolekun’s funeral was rapper, MI Abaga who declined to comment on his relationship with the deceased.

“Today is a very sad day for me and for everybody here.  I won’t be granting any interviews on my relationship with the deceased. I’m so sorry,” MI said.

At the conclusion of the church service, Irawo’s remains were taken to the Vaults and Gardens, Ikoyi, for interment.

Members of the Adamolekun family performed the dust-to-dust rites amid tears around 1:53pm.

We join many others to wish him a peaceful rest.

  1. Despite d nototious nature of anthony both up and down u hardly see police presence there especially in d nite.unlike other places suxh as musin, jibowu, osodi.RIP

  2. May his soul rest in perfect peace. I strongly agree with the deceased's sister, nigeria has failed her citizens. We should all try to contribute our little effort to the development of this country. As irawo was a victim today, we all hope and pray his death would be the last of such

  3. Sad day indeed for d family but the conclusion that the robber turned to robbery because he is not educated or that it was because of joblessness is for me a faulty argument. Most robbers (our politicians included) are very literate with exceptional abilities for strategy. As for joblessness being reason enough to engage in robbery, I beg to differ. It is all a choice and our greed, get rich quick syndrome, as well as our giving undue relevance to the rich that motivates most robbers. Even though there is need for more job creation, a person devoid of pride would hustle and look for other legitimate ways to earn a living. My condolences to the family though. Your loss is a sad one in view of recent losses. It is well

  4. what a great loss :(. May Angels lead you home to the fountain of life.
