Saraki’s trial at Code of Conduct Tribunal suspended

Responding to an order of the Supreme Court, the Code of Conduct Tribunal has suspended the trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The Supreme Court had ordered the tribunal to suspend further hearing in the matter and ‘tarry awhile’ to enable it hear and determine the substantive appeal brought by Saraki.

Hence, pending the determination of Saraki’s appeal at the apex court, the false assets and corruption trial of Bukola Saraki, will be on hold.

This development was disclosed on Monday, by Ibraheem Alhassan, the Public Relations Officer of the tribunal.

According to the tribunal’s spokesperson, the decision to suspend the trial is in compliance with the directive for stay of proceedings.

“The case was slated for hearing on Nov. 23, but as a mark of respect for the apex court, the tribunal decided to tarry a while pending the determination of Saraki’s appeal challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal to try him,” he said.
