Senate majority leader plans to vote FBI Director nominee in before August recess

Spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Monday, that McConnell plans to install Christopher Wray to lead the FBI before senators leave Washington for the August recess.

The presidents nominee to replace James Comey, Wray faced the Senate Judiciary committee for his confirmation hearing last week, and has since gained the support of some Democratic senators

According to Politico, Spokesman for McConnell said, “We intend to confirm Christopher Wray before the August state work, period, even though Senate Democrats have brought unprecedented obstruction to the nominations process this year for no good reason, we hope they do not sink to a new low and force the first-ever cloture vote on an FBI director nominee.”

Though the Republicans don’t need Democrats to vote Wray in, in order to ensure a quick vote, they need the Democrats. A panel vote has been set up on Wray’s nomination for Thursday, though any senator could call for it to be delayed by a week.

Republicans have about two additional weeks to push Wrays confirmation as the start of the August recess is being pushed back till mid-August.
