A 17-year-old boy has allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday morning by tying a noose round his neck in Lagos state.

The deceased identified as Efe, hails from Delta state but lived at Mile 12, Ketu, Lagos where the incident took place.

According to reports from eyewitnesses, Efe used his mother’s scarf as a rope to tie himself to the ceiling fan.

PM News reports:

The source also told P.M.NEWS that he instructed his younger sister who is about 5 years old to lock him in the room before he hanged himself.

When P.M.NEWS visited the scene of the incident, sympathisers were seen consoling the deceased’s mother, while his corpse was still dangling from the ceiling as at 2:04pm.

Our correspondent gathered that the suicide happened at about 9 a.m.

A source close to the family said the incident was too mysterious to comprehend as the boy had earlier in the day helped his mother who sells food items in Mile 12 market.

“He was the one who helped his mother to open the shop this morning (Tuesday). He said he was dirty and needed to take his bath. His mother told him to use the public bathroom in the Mile 12 market but he insisted on going to the house, only to come and do this to himself,” the woman said.

Another source said the reason his corpse was not brought down was because it was a taboo and that only traditional leaders could bring it down after performing the necessary rituals.

Members of African traditional religion practicing in Mile 12, later removed the corpse.
