by Yemi Olowu

Love Keme Aganga, is from Owan West Local Govt of Edo state, and a second year student of history and international relations at the Lagos State University Ojo. She has modelled on runways at events like, ThisDay Fashion Show in 2008, Arise Magazine Fashion Week, Music Meets Runway, Austrian Lace Fashion Show and Kosibah. She has also featured in fashion shoots for WOW Magazine, True Love magazine, Elan and more. She speaks to YNaija on the ups and downs of her fabulous career.

“I just wish the modelling industry can be like the music or movie industry. They take those as careers, unlike modelling. They don’t even respect the models, it’s such a shame.”

How were you discovered?

I was discovered by my lovely aunt, Mrs Yemisi Wada, she encouraged and introduced me to the modelling industry. See me now (laughs).

How long have you had the passion?

I’ve had the passion since I was in secondary school, but I needed to finished my O levels first. But here I am today, doing what I love.

Who are your inspirations?

First it’s God, because without Him there would be no me and you. I always look to Him. Secondly it’s my big aunt, Chief Mrs Pat Adeniji. I look up to her because she has achieved a lot and her sense of dressing is wonderful. She is over 70, years but still looks 60!

Who are the designers you have worked with?

Frank Osodi, Deola Sagoe,Tiffany Amber, Black Coffee, ROF, House of Nwocha, Kosibah, and many more.

What is the support from your family like?

You and I know modelling is not what someone can take as career here in Nigeria, but my aunties  and my parents know I love modelling, so they are in full support.

What are the challenges you face as a model?

There is nothing in this life that has no challenges. Being a model is very challenging, for instance, the scheduling of rehearsals on short notice. Also we feel mistreated by the designers’ manner of approach to us, and sometimes we go through a lot of  castings and don’t get picked.

What agencies do you belong with?

Beth Model Management.

What job has been your best yet?

I will give credit to Arise Magazine Fashion Week.

What are you working on right now?

Right now, nothing really but preparing for my exams.

What are your statistics?

Height: 5 ft 11, Bust: 33, Waist: 25, Hips: 35

What is the best trick you’ve learnt from a make-up artist?

How to combine colors.

Runway or ad campaigns?

I love runway.

Your thoughts on the modelling industry in Nigeria?

I just wish the modelling industry can be like the music or movie industry. They take those as careers, unlike modelling. They don’t even respect the models, it’s such a shame.

Any advice for aspiring models?

You have to be very patient to be successful and never rush into anything. Believe in yourself, that you can make it.
