The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated the newly-elected chairmen of the various state chapters of the APC at the party’s National Secretariat, in Abuja, on Monday.
However, chairmen in states such as Lagos, Oyo, Rivers, Taraba, and Delta among others were advised not to go ahead with the inauguration of other members of the state executives to allow for harmonisation and quick reconciliation on issues with congresses in the states.
Outgoing National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, also said, “I’m going to set up a committee headed by the Deputy National Chairman, (North) to study the situations in such states for possible actions. There will be concessions and harmonisation after the exercise within this week.”
The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) says it would soon adopt the option of “name and shame,” in it’s quest for debt recovery especially for the Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), as the elections draw near.
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of AMCON’, Ahmed Kuru, who made the disclosure, during the presentation of the corporation’s 2017 audited accounts, said it is part of the new drive in dealing decisively with the top obligors. He said that 350 debtors of AMCON account for almost 80 per cent of the over N5 trillion huge debt burden, adding that these must be recovered because AMCON borrowed to purchase the Eligible Bank Assets (EBAs) during the first and second phases of the take over of the bad loans from the banks.
Noting that AMCON has about five more years to wind down operations, Kuru warned that PEPs and business heavyweights who think they are untouchable will not be spared in the enforcement process that are being fine-tuned by the recovery agency, as it has become necessary.
The aggrieved members of the new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), a faction of the All Progressives Congress has suspended it’s talks with the Presidency on Monday.
The decision of the nPDP which was contained in a statement by its chairman, Abubakar Kawu Baraje, revealed that members of the group were angered by a number of developments including an alleged persecution of the Senate President Bukola Saraki.
The nPDP also listed other issues to include the withdrawal of security aides of the National Assembly’s principal officers as well as the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to go ahead with the ratification of all the congresses from wards, local governments, states and zones where many of its members had complaints.
It alleged that the Presidency was not interested in the talks and might have been negotiating in bad faith, adding that it might not be available for talks unless good faith returns to the discussions.
The Ekiti Police Command said on Monday that it has dismissed the officer who fired the shots that injured former lawmaker, Opeyemi Bamidele, and five others at the campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress on Friday.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bello Ahmed, adding that the politician and a House of Representatives aspirant in the APC, Tayo Adebiyi, is still in police custody, who he said had pleaded his innocence, saying he duly applied for the police guard and had no ulterior motive in his action.
“The policeman involved is dismissed already and even though he’s nursing some injury; and at the appropriate time, he will face the law of course,” he said.
“Nigerians will be briefed on the outcome of our actions,” he added
