While the dust is yet to settle on the #EndSARS campaign, the Nigerian Police has reportedly added another feather to its growing list of human right abuses and extra judicial killings. A twitter user, @Mycheta on Tuesday gave a gory account of how his brother, Emeka was killed in Anambra while riding his motorcycle to work.
We spoke till 12am this morning. He left for early morning hustle with his bike by 5am. He was stopped by @PoliceNG but it was late, he didn't see them on time. The police man hit him with his batten and he lost control of his bike. Fell into a gutter and died.
He is my brother. pic.twitter.com/tTW0GzmcJO— Knower of Nothing. (@Mycheta) December 19, 2017
When I was campaigning about #EndSARS and #ReformPoliceNG few weeks ago. I never knew i would experience first hand the pains that comes with it. I never knew my own brother and son will be killed by the recklessness of @PoliceNG. I'm lost. Who will console me.

Emeka my brother was killed today by @PoliceNG at Awka Anambra State. Precisely around Isiagu.
I sincerely call upon the authorities to bring this police officer to book. Equity can never suffer a wrong without a remedy.
The two passengers he is carrying are still in coma

& my people went to the station & @PoliceNG claimed he had an accident. They are trying to deny the fact that a police man hit him.
we have a lot of witnesses & the two persons he was carrying, 1 is already out of coma. I hope we get justice.

Anyone who can help bring this police officer @PoliceNG that killed Emeka to justice will be greatly appreciated. This sorrow is too much for me to bear.
Emeka was only 23.all he wanted was a brighter future.

How can à black skinned police officer @PoliceNG mount a check point in the dark of the night beside a dark bush and expect any speeding vehicle or bike to see him from a distance. And to think they hide only to jump out and stop you like criminals is telling. Emeka rest now.

Emeka was hit with a stick, he fell off his bike and died. The sad tale of @mycheta as it relates to his brother is the norm for Nigerians as many have been sent to the great beyond by their “friends”.
The intention of the police officers for stopping Emeka is not difficult to discern. The Police doesn’t stop to check your documents, they only stop to collect bribes, and even if they ask for your documents, it’s a bait to receive a bribe.
This issue of extrajudicial and unnecessary killings by the Nigeria Police has been addressed by several social commentators over the years, but it has fallen on deaf ears as our “friends” have chosen to turn for the worse.
The list of beautiful souls killed by the police will fill several books. This inhumane act have been chronicled by several bodies including human rights organisations, but has failed, as the police have refused to turn a new leaf.
Emeka, a promising youth going about his normal business, was cut him short in his prime by the Men In Black. The Nigerian Police is wholly responsible for this murder but as usual they won’t take responsibility for it. The family will be left alone to mourn their dead child. This wicked act happened at a time Nigerians across all tribes and religion are in a festive mood.
The case of Emeka must not go unpunished. The police officer must be brought to justice to face the full weight of the law.
